Should I have an engagement shoot?

“Should I have an engagement shoot?” is a question many couples ask when planning a wedding. Many people aren’t even sure what one is! An engagement shoot, sometimes referred to as a pre-wedding shoot or simply an e-shoot, is a great way to celebrate your engagement with what is basically just a portrait shoot of the two of you together. This shoot can take place at a favourite location, or your photographer will suggest some suitable locations. Popular destinations include the beach, the forest or even a bustling city centre.

Many people also choose to have an engagement shoot as a great opportunity to get used to being in front of the camera. It also allows them to gain an insight into how the portrait session on their wedding day might feel. It’s also a great way to get to know your photographer a little better and find out how they work. On the flip side of this, it is also a great way for your photographer to get to know you better. It also helps them understand a bit more about how you react in front of the camera. The shoot also provides you with an opportunity to provide feedback to your photographer; which images you prefer, and what you felt most (or least!) comfortable doing. The photos can also be used in other ways for your wedding, such as on invites or signing frames/books. You can read more on this in this great article on The Knot.
