HYBRID WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY
What is it, how does it work and who is it for?
HYBRID WEDDING PHOTO + VIDEO – WHAT IS IT?
Hybrid wedding photography and videography is a style of wedding coverage where one photographer (or two if the wedding requires it) captures both high-quality photos and video during the same event. Instead of hiring separate specialists, a hybrid shooter uses equipment and techniques that allow them to switch between still photography and filming seamlessly.
The approach focuses on storytelling – delivering a cohesive mix of edited images and a cinematic video that reflect the same moments, mood, and perspective.
WHY DO I DO IT?
Over recent years I’ve been finding many of my couples are asking me for videographer recommendations, yet many are ending up not booking one. This could be for several reasons. Maybe they decided they wanted a video, but not enough to justify the extra expense. Or maybe they didn’t want the additional pressure of multiple cameras pointing at them at once, and preferred the more minimal approach of a single shooter.
Whatever the reason, they ended up compromising on something they clearly wanted but couldn’t find the right solution for them. I’ve introduced these video addons to my packages to give my couples another option to consider.

WHO IS IT FOR?
Hybrid wedding photography and videography is aimed at couples who want both photo and video coverage but prefer a simpler, more streamlined approach.
It tends to appeal to couples who are budget-conscious and don’t want to hire two separate suppliers, as well as those planning smaller or more intimate weddings where having fewer vendors feels less intrusive. It’s also a good fit for couples who value a cohesive storytelling style. Since one person or team is capturing everything, the photos and video usually feel more consistent in tone and perspective.
It can also suit couples who aren’t fussed about extensive, cinematic productions and instead want natural, documentary-style coverage of their day without a large crew following them around. Some just want a record of their ceremony or speeches, so I also offer an addon which includes just those.

WHO IS IT NOT FOR?
If you are someone who values video as much as you do photos, you should absolutely hire both a photographer and videographer. I’ve worked with and can recommend many great videographers. While I can capture some amazing moments on video and put together a lovely highlight film, there is only so much I can capture without compromising on the photography. I am a wedding photographer first and foremost, and that is what likely brought you to me in the first place. My hybrid packages are not designed to replace a videographer. This solution is for those who like the idea of a film, but want to keep things simple and affordable.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
When shooting both photo and video at a wedding, I always have two cameras. One to capture photos, the other for video. I also have an action cam that can be mounted on a camera so I’m able to capture key moments simultaneously. This is great for ceremony entrances/confetti shots etc.
I also have professional audio recording equipment, which is great for recording your vows and speeches. Some of this can often be blended into your highlight film.
Approaching it this way means there is very little compromise. You’ll receive full photo coverage, an emotive highlight film plus recordings of your ceremony and speeches.
